Hyderabad: In an unforunate incident, a 3-day-old infant died at Niloufer Hospital in Hyderabad after a woman fell on the baby inside the hospital’s NICU. The woman was an attendant for another patient at the hospital.

According to Nampally SI Sai Kumar, a woman named Pushpamma delivered a baby boy on August 4 at 7 pm at Parigi Government Hospital in Vikarabad. The infant, weighing 1.3 kg, was shifted to Niloufer Hospital on the same day due to low weight and respiratory distress and was kept in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Preterm babies who suffer with multiple health complications due to very low birth weight are given speciality care at the new facility at Niloufer Hospital.

On Sunday at around 7 am, the mother took baby from the cradle at NICU to breastfeed. After that she made the infant sleep on the floor. An attendant of who came inside the NICU, tripped and fell on the infant. The infant was injured and died as a result.

Speaking to NewsMeter, a duty doctor at Niloufer Hospital said, “The lady attendant who has a giddiness problem fell on the infant while she was in the NICU to help her daughter. There were no other reasons suspected on this incident."

A case has been registered under Nampally police station limits.
