Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Hyderabad and adjoining districts, warning of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms on Tuesday.

The alert follows Monday’s intense downpour that disrupted normal life in parts of the city.

More rain is likely after Monday’s thunderstorm

According to the Hyderabad Meteorological Centre, heavy rainfall is expected in isolated areas of Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Medchal-Malkajgiri and Sangareddy districts. The thunderstorm that lashed the city on Monday may be followed by more spells of rain on Tuesday.

The Met Office has advised residents to stay alert and take necessary precautions in view of the changing weather conditions.

Statewide showers over the next five days

The weather forecast for Telangana suggests that isolated heavy rains will continue across various districts over the next five days.

In its daily report issued on Tuesday, the Meteorological Centre said that light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers are likely at many places in the state during the week.

In addition, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 30 to 40 kmph are expected at isolated locations in all districts.

District-wise forecast breakdown

The IMD has provided a detailed district-wise outlook for the coming days:

Tuesday (August 5): Heavy rain is likely in Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, and Jogulamba Gadwal.

Wednesday (August 6): Showers expected in Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, and Kamareddy.

Thursday (August 7): Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Vikarabad, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal.

Friday (August 8): Rain forecast for Khammam, Vikarabad, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal.

Saturday (August 9): Showers may continue in Vikarabad, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal.

Monsoon activity still weak over Telangana

Despite the rainfall warnings, the IMD noted that the southwest monsoon continues to remain weak over Telangana. The current precipitation is largely due to localised weather systems rather than robust monsoonal activity.

Recent rainfall report

In the past 24 hours, heavy to very heavy rain was recorded at isolated locations in Hyderabad, while heavy showers were reported in Siddipet, Medchal-Malkajgiri and Rangareddy districts. Scattered rainfall was observed in several other parts of the state as well.
