Hyderabad: A low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal crossed the Odisha coast earlier this morning, setting off widespread rainfall across Telangana.

Hyderabad Meteorological Centre has placed the state under a yellow alert until Thursday, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds.

Rainfall Pattern in Telangana

The system is expected to deliver light to heavy rain in several districts through September 4. Thunderstorms and squalls may occur in isolated areas.

“Moisture from the Bay of Bengal is being pulled inland by this circulation, which is why we are seeing a wide coverage of rain across Telangana,” K. S. Sridhar, a meteorologist, told NewsMeter.

Hyderabad Weather Outlook

The capital has already reported overnight showers, and conditions are set to remain unsettled for the next two days. Light to moderate rain with gusty winds is forecast until Thursday evening. Waterlogging in low-lying areas remains a possibility.

Forecast for the Week Ahead

• Wednesday, Sept 3: Breezy with scattered showers, mostly cloudy skies. Day temperature near 29 °C.

• Thursday, Sept 4: Showers likely in the morning, followed by clearer spells later in the day.

• Friday, Sept 5: Cloudy intervals with a chance of light rain; humidity remains high.

• Saturday, Sept 6: Mostly dry with partial sunshine, but breezy conditions continue.

• Sunday, Sept 7: Warm and partly cloudy; little to no rain expected.

• Monday, Sept 8: Cloudy skies with isolated showers developing by evening.

• Tuesday, Sept 9: Slightly warmer at around 32 °C with hazy sunshine.

Looking Beyond September 10

Independent weather observers caution that another low-pressure system may form over the Bay of Bengal after September 11. “If the second system intensifies, we may see heavier rains return to Telangana, and urban flooding cannot be ruled out,” noted weather enthusiast T. Balaji.

Advisory for Residents

Authorities have urged the public to remain cautious during thunderstorms, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay informed by following official updates. “The yellow alert is a reminder that weather can change quickly during the monsoon, and people should take simple safety steps such as staying indoors during lightning activity,” said Sridhar.
