Hyderabad: Rachakonda police commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat on Tuesday booked a Yemeni student accused of alleged rape and molestation of two Chinese students under the Preventive Detention (PD) Act.

Amjad Shawki Abdul Rakeeb Al Qadhi, a BCA student at Nizam College, had arrived in India on a student visa. He was putting up at Nacharam. The victims also came on a student visa from China and were pursuing post-graduation. The accused and victims were friends.

According to police, on June 25, 2021, the accused called one of the girls to his flat. He spiked her juice with some sedatives. When she fell unconscious, he raped her. He threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed the incident to anyone.

In another case, the accused sexually assaulted another Chinese student. He also hit her on the left shoulder causing injuries.

Later victims approached the Nacharam Police, which registered a case of rape and molestation. The accused was arrested and remanded to judicial custody.

In pursuant to the remand order, he was lodged in Central Prison, Chenchalguda on July 10.
