'Yoga is India's gift to the world': Hyderabad hosts slew of events to mark International Day of Yoga 2022

Mentioning this year's theme for yoga day – 'Yoga for Humanity' – the Vice-President underlined the role of yoga in ensuring holistic physical and mental health and well-being among the masses. Referring to increasing mental health issues due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he said that the pandemic has made yoga more important to build resilience and improve our health.

Hyderabad: The eighth International Day of Yoga 2022 was celebrated with much enthusiasm in various parts of the city and the nation. Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu joined the celebrations along with hundreds of other participants at an event organised by the tourism ministry at the Parade Ground in Secunderabad.

In his address, Mr. Naidu said the ancient science of yoga is India's invaluable gift to the world and asked everyone to make yoga part of their daily lives and reap its benefits. He also emphasised the need to undertake further research on yoga as a wellness solution.

The Vice-President stressed the need to take inspiration from ancient philosophy and work towards not just transforming our minds and bodies but on the overall transformation of the nation. Quoting from the Gita, he described yoga as "Excellence in action" and wanted this to be the "mantra" for every Indian to take the country forward. "If you excel in your chosen field and perform your duties honestly, the nation will certainly progress faster," he added.

The Vice-President also said that yoga has no barriers like age, caste, religion, and region. "It is universal," he said.

Union minister G. Kishan Reddy, Olympian P.V Sindhu, and others participated in the mega event.

MANUU

Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) also observed the International Day of Yoga and organized a special programme. Highlighting the importance and usefulness of yoga, Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan, the Vice-Chancellor of MANUU, appealed to the students to take part in various creative and academic activities and take care of their overall health. The importance of yoga with regard to health is undeniable, he said.

The students of the university demonstrated various asanas and inspired other students to adopt yoga in their daily routine.

MANUU is also running a 10-day yoga certificate program from 17 to 26 June in the girls' hostel under the supervision of a female trainer.

TCEI, TEFA

The Telangana Chamber of Events Industry (TCEI) and Telangana Event Facilitators Association (TEFA), representing the various stakeholders from the event industry, commemorated the International Day of Yoga and World Music Day on 21 June by hosting a yoga session and a music concert at NITHM, Hyderabad.

Gautam Koppisetti, master trainer and wellness coach, conducted the yoga and meditation session at NITHM. Later, artists, including flute player Uma Krishna, singer and composer Praveen Krishna Murthy, and singer Deepthi Charya enthralled the audience with soothing music and melodious vocals. Nutritionist Sharmila Kasala conducted a session on a healthy diet.

Hyderabad Airport, Saroornagar Indoor Sports Stadium, Regional Research Institute (Homoeopathy), Central Detective Training Institute, Weavers' Service Centre, and several schools and colleges across Hyderabad also celebrated the International Day of Yoga.





EFLU

Led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Mysore, the Vice-Chancellor of the English and Foreign Languages University, Prof. E. Suresh Kumar, along with students and staff of the university practiced yoga while watching the live streaming of the 8th International Day of Yoga celebrations.


Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Kumar said the regular practice of yoga is essential to maintaining a healthy body, mind, and spirit.

Nuclear Fuel Complex

Nuclear Fuel Complex, Hyderabad has celebrated Yoga Spataha (7 days program) from 14-06-22 to 21-06-22 on the event of International Day of Yoga on 2022.

The concluding session was held at the Sports Pavilion, DAE Colony, ECIL Post, Hyderabad for two days from 20-06-22 to 21-06-22, in which around 1200 employees of NFC, including the local residents of DAE Colony, CISF Staff & AEC School Children have participated. Dr. A.L.V. Kumar, an employee of NFC and International Yoga Teacher Trainer has demonstrated various Asanas and made the participants to practise and also highlighted the importance of the Yoga in life and informed the participants to regularly practice the same to keep the body healthy. Dr. Kumar demonstrated different Asanas and has highlighted the importance of Yoga for different ailments and benefits of the continuous practice to overcome many health related issues without any side effects to live a better life.
