YS Sharmila detained for assaulting police officers in Hyderabad
The video shows police attempting to stop Sharmila’s car and the latter can be seen manhandling the cops
By Nikisha Uddagiri Published on 24 April 2023 10:24 AM GMTHyderabad: Y.S. Sharmila, the chief of the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Telangana Party (YSRTP) and sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy, was detained by the Telangana police on Monday for assaulting police officers.
The incident occurred near her residence in Lotus Pond when the police tried to stop her car while she was on her way to the office of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in Hyderabad. SIT is investigating the alleged leak of questions for recruitment exams conducted by the state government.
The video of the incident has gone viral on social media. It shows the police attempting to stop Sharmila’s car and the latter can be seen manhandling the cops and even slapping a woman constable and later hitting Banjara Hills SI Ravinder.
Speaking to NewsMeter, DCP Joel Davis, west zone, Hyderabad, said, “Sharmila called the SIT office and we received information that she was going to create trouble at SIT office. So we went there to brief her that without permission we cannot allow her to go to which she immediately reacted.”
The police detained Sharmila and shifted her to the Jubilee Hills police station. She is currently under police custody and is being questioned in connection with the incident. The Banjara Hills police have registered a case against her under sections 332, 353, 509, and 427 for assaulting officers on duty, and two drivers in Sharmila's convoy as they did not stop the car despite Constable Giribabu's instructions.
Y.S. Vijayamma, Sharmila’s mother, allegedly assaulted a woman constable outside Jubilee Hills police station. The incident occurred when Vijayamma was denied permission to meet her daughter.
Police Association react to Sharmila's behaviour
Police officers Association, of Hyderabad city condemned the unacceptable behavior of YS Sharmila, and her mother YS Vijayamma , who slapped on duty police officials on Monday morning. In a statement of, Police Officers Association president N Shankar Reddy said that these incidents test the patience of the police officers. "Many political leaders are doing such activities, disrespecting the police department and are trying to get a fame in public. This is totally unacceptable," he added.
