Hyderabad: People have petitioned HYDRAA after land sharks encroached on internal roads, layouts, and drainage channels across Hyderabad.
HYDRAA received 58 complaints during the weekly Prajavani grievance program.
Residents allege that illegal occupations are blocking access roads, shrinking public spaces, and disrupting natural drainage, leading to frequent flooding in several areas.
Roads blocked, layouts altered
In many colonies, particularly those with dead-end roads, plot owners on either side are allegedly blocking access by extending their boundaries.
In Kuntloor village of Pedda Amberpet mandal in Rangareddy district, residents of Anjanadri Nagar, a layout spread over nearly 15 acres with around 800 plots (Survey No. 204), complained that an adjacent layout developer encroached into their area, wiping out parts of roads and even some plots.
Public infrastructure under threat
In Manneguda village near Turkayamjal along the Nagarjuna Sagar Road, residents alleged that a 30-feet-wide road has been encroached upon.
They claimed that a transformer and a temple compound wall were constructed on the road. Despite obtaining Layout Regularisation Scheme (LRS) approvals that include the road, locals said they are now being asked to “purchase” the same road for access.
Drainage channels blocked, flooding worsens
Serious concerns were raised in Mahalakshmi Nagar Colony near Sahebnagar Kalan in Vanasthalipuram (Hayathnagar mandal), where a newly developed commercial layout has allegedly blocked both stormwater and sewage drains. Residents say this has led to frequent inundation of their locality during the rains.
Parks and public spaces encroached
In Patancheru, near the GMR Convention Centre, residents of a gated community alleged that parts of a central park in a luxury layout are being encroached upon in the name of constructing temples.
Complaints have also emerged from the Nacharam–Mallapur main road, where constructions are reportedly coming up by encroaching onto the roadway.
Colony roads and parks occupied
In Rajendranagar zone’s Attapur circle, residents of TNGO Colony in Mailardevpally alleged that nearly 1,200 square yards of park land has been encroached. They also complained that a 40-feet-wide road in the same colony is being gradually occupied.
Encroachments on water channels
In Budvel village of Rangareddy district, a flood channel leading to Pattikunta lake is reportedly being encroached, raising concerns over water flow obstruction and potential flooding risks.
Authorities take note
HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath reviewed all 58 complaints received at the Prajavani programme and directed concerned officials to take necessary action and resolve the issues at the earliest.
