Large-scale demolition of temporary structures
As part of the drive, authorities demolished hundreds of temporary sheds and over 30 shops that had allegedly come up by misusing the boundary of a temple structure within the Full Tank Level (FTL) limits of Mondikunta.
Officials said various commercial establishments—including mechanic sheds, iron and steel shops and other temporary structures—were operating in the encroached area. The occupants were reportedly collecting rents worth lakhs of rupees every month from these establishments.
Prior inquiry and satellite verification
HYDRAA had conducted a detailed inquiry into the encroachments on January 31 in the presence of revenue officials and alleged encroachers.
During the meeting, revenue authorities confirmed that the land belonged to the government and that illegal occupations had taken place.
Time given for relocation
Satellite imagery from NRSC was also examined to substantiate the encroachments. The findings were formally communicated to those involved and time was granted before initiating the eviction drive.
Acting on the directions of HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath, officials, along with revenue and GHMC teams, executed the operation under heavy security arrangements.
Fencing to protect lake and government land
Following the clearance, fencing work was taken up around Mondikunta to prevent future encroachments. Authorities reiterated that protecting water bodies and public land remains a priority.
Locals gathered at the site in large numbers and appreciated the action taken to safeguard the lake and public property. They urged officials to develop parks on the reclaimed land and undertake beautification of the lake to improve the surrounding environment.
The drive marks one of the significant recent actions to protect government assets in the rapidly developing Madhapur–HITEX corridor.
