Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has secured 2.34 acres of government land worth nearly Rs 250 crore in Attapur under Rajendranagar mandal of Rangareddy district.
Two groups fighting over ownership
The action brought an end to a long-standing dispute between two groups over the ownership and use of the land.
The land, in Survey Nos. 354/1, 354/2 and 354/3 at Rambagh had been at the centre of a conflict for years, with different groups staking claims. Acting on reports and after verifying records, HYDRAA officials removed an illegal enclosure and fenced the land, declaring it as government property.
Long-standing dispute over land
The disputed land lies in an area surrounded by temples, with government land in the middle. A Sikh memorial (samadhi) is also situated adjacent to the site.
For several years, one group demanded that the land be allotted to nearby temples, while another group sought allocation for the Sikh community. The disagreement continued for decades, with both sides claiming rights over the land.
Recently, members of the Sikh community approached the High Court seeking allotment of the land. On January 29, the court directed the district collector to examine the issue and take an appropriate decision within three months.
Encroachment triggered tensions
During the ongoing dispute, members of the Sikh community reportedly erected tin-sheet barricades around the 2.34-acre land and attempted to take possession of it. This led to tension between the two groups and created a volatile situation in the locality.
HYDRAA Commissioner’s intervention
Following media reports on the dispute, HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath personally reviewed the issue. He held discussions with both groups, examined relevant documents and consulted revenue officials.
After verification, the authorities confirmed that the land belongs to the government. The commissioner then ordered immediate action to protect the property by removing the illegal enclosure and installing fencing along with boards declaring it as government land.

Sikh memorial left untouched
Acting on the commissioner’s orders, officials on Sunday removed the tin-sheet barricades and erected fencing around the entire 2.34 acres. HYDRAA boards were also installed, identifying the land as government property.
Authorities ensured that the 366 square yards where the Sikh memorial is located were left untouched, while fencing was carried out around the remaining land.
Police and revenue officials were deployed at the site to prevent any law and order issues during the operation.
Locals welcome the move
With HYDRAA’s intervention, a dispute that had lingered for decades has now been resolved. Locals welcomed the action and appreciated the agency for protecting valuable government land and restoring order in the area.
