Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRAA) on Monday clarified that the Full Tank Level (FTL) limits of Sunnam Cheruvu in Madhapur have not been altered and that all development works are being carried out strictly as per the scientific demarcation finalized in May 2014.
The agency rejected allegations made by Kukatpally MLA Madhavaram Krishna Rao that the lake’s FTL boundaries were being changed under the guise of development.
Development based on 2014 FTL fixation
HYDRAA stated that the FTL of Sunnam Cheruvu was initially determined by the Irrigation Department in May 2014. The ongoing restoration and development works are being executed strictly in accordance with those officially recorded geo-coordinates (latitude and longitude markers).
The agency emphasized that the demarcation was done transparently in coordination with the Irrigation and Revenue Departments, and that the FTL boundaries of a lake are permanent in nature.
Lake restored from 14 acres to 31 acres
According to HYDRAA, Sunnam Cheruvu had shrunk to nearly 14 acres due to encroachments over the years. Based on the 2014 Irrigation Department records, the lake area has now been restored and expanded to 31 acres.
The agency maintained that the restoration was aimed at protecting public land and reviving the water body as per official records, not at benefiting any particular group.
HYDRAA rejects political allegations
Responding to the MLA’s visit to the lake on Monday, HYDRAA recalled that Irrigation Department officials had clarified the FTL demarcation in the presence of all concerned.
The agency categorically denied any attempt to modify lake boundaries, stating that neither influential persons are being protected nor the poor being targeted in the drive against encroachments.
HYDRAA reiterated that all works are being carried out strictly as per the geo-coordinates fixed in 2014 and urged stakeholders to recognize that FTL limits are permanent and legally binding.
