Imax theatre employee ends life over financial burden

Hyderabad : Financial burdens following the COVID imposed lockdown forced an employee of Prasad's IMAX (Multiplex Theater) to end his life in Khairatabad of Hyderabad on Friday. The deceased Vijaya Bhasker Rao was found died at his home, the police said.

According to Cops, Vijaya Bhaskar Rao, 55 working as a movie operator at Prasad’s Imax, was a resident of Khairatabad. Ever since the lockdown was imposed, the theater management has been paying half salary. According to the family, the employer informed the man that his salary will be trimmed by 50 % from the coming months.

With existing financial burdens and the decision of theater management forced him to take the extreme step, the police found.

Allegedly upset over this situation, he died by suicide at his residence on Friday. Based on a complaint from his wife Venkata lakshmi, Punjagutta police registered a case in this regard and started investigation.

This is not a stand alone incident reported in Hyderabad. Ever since the pandemic many bread-earners have ended lives over no employment and fear of facing financial burdens. Recently a couple in Khairatabad ended their life over COVID fear. Salary cuts, loss of job, no recruitment has led to adding stress to several families.
