I’m ‘Samvidhan Rakshak Campaign’: All about Congress 100-day Constitution protection drive

Hyderabad: The Constitution of India is the supreme legal authority that binds the legislative, executive, and judicial organs of government. The Constitution grants all citizens fundamental rights and empowers the independent judiciary to invalidate legislation or government actions that violate the Constitution. The Constitution protects individual rights and liberties while allowing the Indian State to function under a democratic system. It is because of the constitution that India has grown, thrived, and emerged as one of the stronger democracies and economically powerful nations in the world.

Thanks to the Constitution, India has grown into a strong democracy and a powerful economy. After World War II, over 50 countries gained independence within a decade, including India in 1947. Unlike many of these countries, which face issues like civil war, anarchy, and economic instability, India has managed to flourish.

Why Save The Constitution Campaign Was Launched?

The Save the Constitution Campaign was launched to raise awareness among the people of India, especially those who are economically disadvantaged, marginalized, poor, lower middle class, middle class, OBCs, SC&ST, and Minorities or those who have faced injustice (This group comprises approximately 90% of the entire India’s population). The campaign aims to educate them about their fundamental rights and freedoms.

In response to concerns that the current government might attempt to amend the Constitution, the Congress Party initiated this campaign to prevent any drastic changes. The Constitution is viewed as a holy book that protects citizens from exploitation and ensures equal treatment for all, regardless of their background. It empowers every citizen to defend themselves against any form of injustice or cruelty by the powerful sections of society or the government.

Rahul Gandhi (Leader of Opposition) has repeatedly mentioned since the Lok Sabha Election that the BJP government is on the path to obliterating the Constitution of India. One recent example is the lateral entries in UPSC, which is nothing but a sinister design to prevent SC and ST candidates from getting into the Indian Administrative Services. And this one of the reasons why the Congress last Friday launched a 100-day ‘Samvidhan Rakshak Campaign’ to enroll the public in “protecting the Constitution at all costs.”

All India Congress Committee (AICC) treasurer Ajay Maken at a press conference held at the Constitution Club said, “The challenges and threats to the Constitution still prevail as the same people who wanted to change it before the elections are in power again.” He further said, “The challenges and threats to the Constitution still prevail as the same people who wanted to change it before the elections are in power again,” he said, adding that the campaign was being launched “at the right time”.

Article 12 to 35 contained in Part III of the Constitution deal with 6 guaranteed fundamental Rights…

1. Right to equality, including equality before the law, prohibition of discrimination on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex, or place of birth, and equality of opportunity in matters of employment.

2. Right to freedom of speech and expression, assembly, association or union, movement, residence, and right to practice any profession or occupation (some of these rights are subject to security of the State, friendly relations with foreign countries, public order, decency or morality).

3. Right against exploitation, prohibiting all forms of forced labor, child labor, and traffic in human beings.

4. Right to freedom of conscience and free profession, practice, and propagation of religion.

5. Right of any section of citizens to conserve their culture, language, or script, and right of minorities to establish and administer educational institutions of their choice; and

6. Right to constitutional remedies for enforcement of Fundamental Rights.
