Jagan fumes at Nimmagadda for local body poll postponement

Vijayawada: Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has expressed his displeasure over the decision of the Election Commission to postpone local body elections by another six weeks, citing the spread of coronavirus.

The Chief Minister called on Governor Biswa Bhushan Harichandan on Sunday and conveyed his dismay over the unilateral decision taken by the Election Commissioner, Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar.

He has reportedly explained to the Governor that no inquiry has been carried out over the officers, who were shifted out of their positions as District Collectors and SPs of Guntur and Chittoor respectively. Mr Reddy also said that the EC has not even consulted the State Government over its postponement decision.

It may be recalled that Mr Ramesh Kumar had directed the transfer of District Collectors of Chittoor and Guntur, Rural SP- Guntur, and Urban SP- Tirupati. He also directed transfer of CIs of Punganuru, Rayadurgam, Tadipatri, and DSP- Palamaneru, and suspension of Macharla CI.
