Jatara in East Godavari district despite COVID-19 restrictions

Kakinada: The Jatara celebrations [festivities for Goddess Nookalama] at Muramalla village in Polavaram Mandal in East Godavari on Wednesday late night turned out as hot topic for discussion, in the wake of imposition of section 144 and restrictions on mass movement due to Covid -19.
As part of the conduct of the Jatara, fire walk was also conducted in which large number of people including women participated. It is said that the local village authorities are completely ignorant of the ongoing lockdown across the country. The concerned police also have no clue about this fest, which was conducted on a massive scale.
When contacted over the conduct of this Jatara, the concerned Amalapuram sub division police officer [ SDPO]in East Godavari, S. Muqbul Basha on Thursday noon said that they have initiated action on the organizers of this activity conducted without any authorization.
