Liquor shop burgled in Vizag during lockdown

Visakhapatnam: In an interesting incident during the lockdown in the wake of outbreak of COVID-19, unidentifed winebibbers stuck at the government run liquor shop and decamped with liquor worth Rs1.5 lakh at Gajuwaka in Vizag city on Wednesday night. With the lockdown of state, majority of the regular drinkers in Andhra Pradesh are unable to find liquor as all the liquor shops in the state have been shut down from March 22.

The police are suspecting that some boozers might have been involved in the burglary in the wine shop and they decamped with over 140 bottles of liquor. Though the liquor shop was located close to the police station at Gajuwaka area in Vizag city, the police failed to notice the burglary. Based on the complaint from the officials of the Excise department, the police have registered a case and investigation is on. In the absence of liquor availability, the regular drinkers have a tough time in Andhra Pradesh and some of the boozeers are consuming ganja for kick.

Normally during the curfew and lockdown times, we can witness looting of essential commodities from the stores. But here we witnessed the looting of liquor, said a senior police officer.Sources in police said that suspecting the possible break-in incidents at the locked liquor shops, the police are chalking out plans to deploy police constables near the wine shops to prevent the burglary incidents.
