Jilted lover slits girls throat in Vizag, victim dies on spot

Visakhapatnam: A 21-year-old slit the throat of a 17-year-old girl with a knife on the roadside after she refused his relationship at Sundarayya Nagar under Gajuwaka police station limits in Vizag city on Saturday night. The girl died on the spot.


The victim, identified as Varalakshmi, was an intermediate pass-out while the accused, Akil Sai, is a law student at a university in the city.


The locals said that Anil had been stalking the girl, demanding that she get into a relationship with him, even after the girl had rejected him several times.


On Saturday night, while Varalakshmi was returning from a temple, Sai stopped her and both got into an argument.


Then he took a knife and slit her throat. Varalakshmi bled to death at the spot in a pool of blood and Sai was caught by some bystanders who handed him over to the police.


The Gajuwaka police took stock of the crime scene and the knife was recovered from the accused. The police have registered a case and the investigation is on. The body was shifted to a morgue for autopsy.


Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh to the family of Varalakshmi who was murdered by her stalker on Saturday night in Vizag.

The chief minister directed the chief secretary, DGP and the intelligence chief to take serious action against the accused and directed home minister Mekathoti Sucharita, Disha special officers Krutika Shukla and Deepika Patil to immediately visit the family of the victim to offer condolences.


Jagan said that awareness should be created among every woman, especially school and college students, to download the Disha app for their safety. He directed the officials to take stern action against perpetrators of atrocities against women. He directed the officials to take immediate action as and when they get a distress call from any woman claiming a threat to her life.
