Vizianagaram: A young man slit the throat of a 17-year-old girl and committed suicide by jumping before a running train at S Kota in Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh on Monday night. The teenage victim is said to be in a critical condition.
The police said the girl stays with her aunt at Vepada and is an intermediate student of a local junior college. She was being stalked by the 20-year-old deceased, P Koteswara Rao, of the same village.
Despite counselling and warnings by the girl’s relatives, Rao continued to stalk her and had recently proposed to marry her. He was enraged after she rejected his proposal. Rao intercepted the girl when she was returning home from college and slashed her throat before fleeing from the spot.
The injured girl was rushed to the government hospital at S Kota. A couple of hours later, Rao committed suicide by coming in front of a goods train. Inspector Srinivasa Rao of S Kota police station said they have shifted the body to a morgue for autopsy. "We have registered a case and the investigation is on."
Vizianagaram Police chief B Raja Kumari appealed to girl students to approach the police if they are being harassed by anybody in the guise of love and marriage.
