Kurnool MLA starts free ambulance service to transport COVID bodies

Hyderabad: The YSRCP MLA from Kurnool, Hafeez Khan, launched a free ambulance service in the district to take bodies of COVID-19 victims from hospitals to the burial grounds. He took the decision after it came to his notice that private ambulances were charging huge amounts from families of COVID-19 victims for the same.

Mr. Khan said the Andhra Pradesh government is providing end-to-end COVID care to patients, including treatment in quarantine centers and government hospitals, and providing health care kits to patients under home quarantine. ā€œIf unfortunately, the patient dies, the government ambulances help with the burials. The state is also giving Rs. 15,000 to the family of the deceased to meet their immediate needs,ā€ the MLA said.

However, some private ambulances are charging hefty amounts from the families of the dead. ā€œWe were able to curb those illegal activities and also booked cases against ambulance owners and drivers involved in the same,ā€ Mr. Khan added. He requested the people of Kurnool to use the free ambulance service to transport the COVID-19 victims to the burial grounds.

Kurnool municipal commissioner D.K Balaji inaugurated the ambulance service and praised the efforts of the MLA.
