Kurnool MLA starts free ambulance service to transport COVID bodies

Hyderabad: The YSRCP MLA from Kurnool, Hafeez Khan, launched a free ambulance service in the district to take bodies of COVID-19 victims from hospitals to the burial grounds. He took the decision after it came to his notice that private ambulances were charging huge amounts from families of COVID-19 victims for the same.

Mr. Khan said the Andhra Pradesh government is providing end-to-end COVID care to patients, including treatment in quarantine centers and government hospitals, and providing health care kits to patients under home quarantine. “If unfortunately, the patient dies, the government ambulances help with the burials. The state is also giving Rs. 15,000 to the family of the deceased to meet their immediate needs,” the MLA said.

However, some private ambulances are charging hefty amounts from the families of the dead. “We were able to curb those illegal activities and also booked cases against ambulance owners and drivers involved in the same,” Mr. Khan added. He requested the people of Kurnool to use the free ambulance service to transport the COVID-19 victims to the burial grounds.

Kurnool municipal commissioner D.K Balaji inaugurated the ambulance service and praised the efforts of the MLA.
