Laknavaram Lake closed for tourists till 10 February

Warangal: Laknavaram Lake, a famous tourist destination in the district, will remain closed for tourists till February 10 in view of the Medaram jatara.

Tourists visiting Medaram also visit the lake which results in huge traffic jams along the Chalvai-Laknavaram road. Since there is no other route to reach the lake, everyone takes the same road, causing traffic jams and inconvenience to the devotees. Also, the road leading up to the lake is undergoing repair work and several culverts are being constructed. The officials, therefore, have decided to close down the road until the jatara is over.

Laknavaram Lake is one of the most popular tourist locations in the district. People from other states and even outside India make it a point to visit it if they are anywhere nearby. The lake sprawls over an area of 10,000 acres. The two hanging bridges connecting the floating islands are an attraction. The Kakatiya rulers who recognised this saucer-like land built a sluice gate to hold the rainwater in the 13th century which turned the place into a lake. It holds about 2.135 tmcft of water and irrigates over 3,500 acres of land in the surrounding villages.
