Buddhist monks march for global harmony as Dhamma Padayatra arrives in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Tourism and Culture Minister Jupally Krishna Rao will welcome the 3rd Dhamma Padayatra upon its arrival in Hyderabad on Wednesday, February 18. The Minister, along with senior officials and public representatives, will receive the procession at the landmark 125-foot Dr BR Ambedkar Statue at 1 pm.
A journey of peace and compassion
The padayatra, featuring hundreds of Buddhist monks from both Thailand and India, is dedicated to spreading Gautama Buddha’s message of global harmony.
The Route: The spiritual march began at the Siddhartha Buddha Vihara in Karnataka.
Distance: Participants are trekking over 400 kilometres on foot.
Leadership: The journey is led by Ven. Pra Songshak Kovido (Thailand) and organised by the Gagan Malik Foundation.
Hyderabad schedule
Following the reception at the Ambedkar Statue, the monks will continue their symbolic journey through the city's iconic Buddhist sites:
Lumbini Park: The procession will pay homage at the historic Buddha Statue in the centre of Hussainsagar.
Mahabodhi Buddha Vihara: The monks will reside here through February 19th for spiritual discourses.
The Final Leg: On February 20, the march will resume, passing through Uppal, Ibrahimpatnam and Kondamallepalli.
Grand Culmination at Buddhavanam
The yatra is set to conclude on March 1 at Buddhavanam in Nagarjunasagar. Mallepally Lakshmaiah, Special Officer of Buddhavanam, emphasised that this event is a significant cultural milestone for Telangana, aiming to foster international peace and spiritual connectivity.
