Bayan-e-Ghalib: A Saturday evening of ghazals and Kathak honouring Mirza Ghalib

Hyderabad: Hyderabad will witness an immersive cultural event, Bayan-e-Ghalib, celebrating the life and work of legendary Urdu poet Mirza Ghalib.

The event is scheduled to take place on January 18 at Shilpakala Vedika, Madhapur, starting at 7 pm. The program brings together a unique blend of ghazals, Kathak dance and a lively narration, offering a multi-dimensional tribute to the poet.

The highlights of the event include:

- Ghazals will be performed by Dr Prabha Srivastava, known for her efforts in preserving and reviving the allure of ghazals through dedicated concerts.

- Kathak Dance Drama will be presented by Prof. Kumkum Dhar and troupe, showcasing the legacy of the classical Indian dance form.

- Narration will be provided by Syed Kabir Ahmad, a scholar who will delve into Ghalib’s journey, and Sudhanshu Mani, who is also the producer of the show.

- The event’s stage and lighting design will be by Gopal Sinha.

Dr Koustubh Dhumal, CEO of Maanaviaya Kalyan Trust and Sudhanshu Mani, the visionary behind the Vande Bharat Express, shared details at a press conference held at FTCCI.

“The event is a cultural tribute celebrating the genius of Mirza Asadullah Khan Ghalib,” said Dr Dhumal, adding, “It combines powerful narration, soulful Ghazal renditions and enchanting Kathak dance to bring alive the poet’s legacy.”

A journey through Ghalib’s legacy

The event aims to explore Ghalib’s unparalleled contributions to Urdu literature. His poetry, known for its deep intellect and universal themes of love and loss, resonates across eras. His narrative style, or “andāz-e-bayāñ”, remains unmatched in its emotional depth and intellectual brilliance.

“Ghalib’s letters are masterpieces of Urdu prose, offering intimate glimpses into his life and 19th-century Mughal India,” said Syed Kabir Ahmad, who will narrate Ghalib’s journey during the event.

Bayan-e-Ghalib in major cities

Bayan-e-Ghalib is part of a series of shows that began in Lucknow and will now continue in Hyderabad. It is expected to travel to New Delhi in the future.

“This unique combination of ghazals and Kathak dance creates a powerful medium to relive Ghalib’s timeless works,” said Sudhanshu Mani, the show’s producer.
