‘Cinema Lovers Day’: Movie theatres slash prices to attract audience; Telangana too joins race

Hyderabad: Movie theatres across the country have launched ‘Cinema Lovers Day’ to attract audiences and manage the reduced number of film releases.

‘Cinema Lovers Day’ was launched on May 31. On this day, both multiplexes and single-screen cinemas are offering movie tickets at the exceptionally low price of Rs 99.

This initiative includes major multiplex chains such as PVR Inox, Cinepolis India, Miraj Cinemas, Multa A2, and MovieMax, covering approximately 4,000 screens nationwide.

Although premium formats like recliners are excluded from the promotion, a substantial 90-95% of seats are available at the discounted rate.

Single-screen cinemas, especially those in the southern states, are also participating. Some of these theaters are offering tickets at prices as low as Rs 70, making the cinema experience more accessible to a broader audience.

The timing of this initiative is crucial for the industry. In Telangana, around 450 single-screen theaters were temporarily closed for two weeks starting from May 15. However, with the release of films such as ‘Gangs of Godavari’, ‘Gam Gam Ganesha’, and ‘Bhaje Vayu Vegam’, some theaters have begun to reopen. The discounted ticket offer is expected to further boost attendance and bring moviegoers back to theaters.

This move by theaters aims to attract viewers back to the big screen, providing an affordable way for people to enjoy movies in a communal setting.
