Hyderabad: Mohammad Ali Baig launches ‘Travel Tales’ anthology

Hyderabad: Celebrated theatre scion Mohammad Ali Baig unveiled ‘Travel Tales’, a book edited by renowned writer Rinki Roy Bhattacharya from Mumbai. She is the daughter of legendary filmmaker Bimal Roy. The book has also been edited by film critic Maithili Rao, based in Mysore.

The book is a compilation of 29 travel stories from across the world, published by Anuradha Mothali of Mind U Read Media. The book was launched in the city in a grand ceremony at the Centre for Cultural Resources and Training.

The chief guest, Padma Shri Mohammad Ali Baig, unveiled the book in the presence of literature lovers of the city. Afterwards, he read out excerpts from the book.

He read out Rinki Bhattacharya’s ‘Oh, for a Bucket Bath in Brussels’, a travel tale set in Belgium and late NVK Murthy’s ‘A Dangerous Journey’ set in Hyderabad during the country’s partition. In his celebrated way of speech, Baig bound the audience for about half an hour with the two stories and spoke about the essence of travel in modern-day lifestyle.

He also paid homage to the legendary filmmaker Bimal Roy, whose films, he said, ‘serve as textbooks’ for today’s filmmakers and storytellers. He mentioned that owing to the closeness of the two families of Roys and Baigs, he could watch all of Roy’s films on videotapes as a child.

Publishers Anuradha Mothali and Kartik played hosts to the authors and literature at the invigorating evening of literature.
