Thousands of women run in sarees at Taneira Saree Run’s on Necklace Road
Hyderabad: More than 3,000 women gathered at People’s Plaza, Necklace Road on Sunday morning for the second edition of the Taneira Saree Run. Organised by Taneira, a Tata brand, in collaboration with Bengaluru-based fitness company JJ Active, the event encouraged women to embrace fitness while wearing sarees.
A celebration of tradition and movement
The Taneira Saree Run aims to showcase the adaptability of the saree beyond traditional settings. The Hyderabad chapter saw 3,120 women draped in sarees representing diverse weaves from across India. The event was flagged off by Ambuj Narayan, CEO of Taneira and Coach Pramod from JJ Active.

Speaking about the event, Ambuj Narayan said, “The Taneira Saree Run celebrates the strength and spirit of women, bringing together tradition and modern energy. The saree, a symbol of grace and resilience, continues to empower women as they embrace both their heritage and individuality. In partnership with JJ Active, we’re showing how the saree fits seamlessly into today’s active lifestyles. Set in the lively city of Hyderabad, this event highlights the power of community, promoting women’s health, and inclusivity. It provides a supportive platform for women to share inspiring stories, motivate each other, and overcome challenges together.”
Encouraging women to prioritise fitness
The event is part of a broader initiative to encourage women to focus on their health and well-being. The saree run has previously been held in cities like Bengaluru, Pune, Ahmedabad and Chennai, bringing together women from different backgrounds to share their experiences.
Coach Pramod from JJ Active emphasised the importance of fitness in women’s daily lives, stating, “Women who devote themselves to their families’ well-being often find it challenging to make time for their own health. The Taneira Saree Run is a unique initiative designed to empower women to prioritize their fitness in a comfortable and encouraging environment. It provides a platform for them to share inspiring stories of resilience, support one another and celebrate their journey toward better health. The women of Hyderabad have shown remarkable enthusiasm, as seen in the tremendous response to last year’s inaugural Taneira Saree Run. We are thrilled to witness an even greater turnout this year. Kudos to the incredible women of Hyderabad for championing fitness and well-being.”

A growing movement
The Taneira Saree Run continues to gain momentum across different cities, with increasing participation each year. The event promotes a balance between cultural heritage and modern lifestyles, encouraging women to integrate fitness into their daily routines.
With Hyderabad witnessing a strong response, the organisers are expected to bring future editions of the run to more cities, fostering a larger community of women embracing movement and tradition together.
