‘On the Go’ travelling art expo: Gallery G brings modern and classical masterpieces to Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Gallery G’s ‘On the Go’ travelling art expo to debut in Hyderabad from July 11 at Taj Krishna

Hyderabad: Gallery G, one of India’s prominent art institutions, is bringing its travelling exhibition ‘On the Go’ to Hyderabad from July 11 to 13 at the Taj Krishna. After launching in Kochi earlier this year, the second edition of the exhibition aims to take art beyond traditional gallery spaces, presenting a curated blend of modern and classical works to new audiences across India.

Art without borders

Speaking about the initiative, Gitanjali Maini, founder and managing director of Gallery G, said, “We’ve been incredibly fortunate to have collectors, friends and supporters from across India. It’s time to go where the love has come from. On the Go is about breaking geographical boundaries — bringing our carefully curated exhibitions to audiences who’ve always been a part of our journey.”

For over 20 years, Gallery G has established itself as a leading voice in Indian art, known for its scholarly exhibitions and focus on both contemporary and classical Indian traditions. On the Go reflects a shift in how the gallery engages with its community, opting for mobility and access over formality.

Hyderabad as a cultural host

Hyderabad was selected as a key stop in the first phase of the travelling exhibition, which is focusing on South Indian cities. The city’s blend of historical grandeur, intellectual legacy, and artistic interest made it a natural choice.

“Hyderabad represents everything we stand for — legacy, discernment, and a deep-seated appreciation for the arts,” said Maini.

A national showcase of talent

The Hyderabad edition of On the Go will feature works by artists from across India, including modern masters and emerging names.

Featured artists include Ganapathy Hegde, Bharati Prajapati, Sangeeta Baid, Jai Khanna, Avinash Veeraraghavan, Leon, Bhiva Punekar and Rabin Dutta. The exhibition also showcases works from Telangana-based artists such as Srinivasulu, Surya Prakash and Redappa Naidu.

Visitors can also expect to see works by iconic modernists like MF Husain, Yusuf Arakkal, VS Gaitonde, and SM Pandit, alongside classical forms such as Tanjore and Mysore paintings, silver-filigree furniture, sculptures like the Bhagavati of Kerala and scenes like Ram Pattabhisheka.

“Each artist in this show has been chosen for their ability to command attention, not just in a gallery setting but in the broader cultural imagination. This is a portrait of India’s evolving visual identity,” Maini added.

More than just art on display

In addition to the exhibition, On the Go in Hyderabad will feature interactive sessions for collectors and art enthusiasts. A key highlight will be a talk on art as history by acclaimed historian and author Manu S Pillai.
