The book was published by Bookleaf Publishing House and has been praised for its distinctive approach to storytelling through poetic narratives.
Award Celebrates Literary Innovation
The Emily Dickinson Award, inspired by the celebrated American poet, challenges authors to complete a book within 21 days. Selected writers are honored with the limited edition 21st Century Emily Dickinson Award trophy. Raju’s Places Via Notes stood out for its exploration of places through lyrical reflections.

A New Perspective on Places
Speaking about his work, Viswaprasad Raju said, “Places play, places pause, places rewind, places fast forward, and, most importantly, places don’t stop to inspire.” He explained that no two places are alike, and each chapter in the book is crafted with a unique narrative style. Raju noted, “You can call it a poem, a post, a note, or a dialogue; the idea was to look at each place from a new perspective, a new lens.”
The collection spans 21 places experienced over 21 days, ranging from “a conversation between two poets” at the Galle Literary Festival in Sri Lanka, to “tracking a tiger” in Bandhavgarh, and “two cities finding common ground” in the Hyderabad & London chapter. It also includes “a date with a Banyan Tree” in Pillalamarri, offering readers poetic snapshots of diverse locations.
Previous Works and Literary Journey
Raju’s literary journey began with his first book, Via Pen & Ink, which showcased sketches from 10 countries he traveled to over a decade. Places Via Notes marks his second publication, reflecting a shift from visual sketches to poetic storytelling. His third book continues this exploration of places, emphasizing narrative creativity and lyrical prose.

Recognition for Narrative Innovation
The recognition by the Emily Dickinson Award highlights Raju’s unique storytelling approach, setting his work apart in contemporary poetry. His ability to transform travel experiences into poetic reflections has resonated with readers, bringing a fresh perspective to the genre.
The award not only celebrates Raju’s work but also underscores the growing appreciation for narrative experimentation in modern poetry.
