Hyderabad: The tenth edition of the Hyderabad Rockathon unfolded on Sunday at Forestrek Park in Narsingi, drawing around 150 participants into a day of adventure and fitness challenges.

Activities such as Rappelling, Ziplining, Rock Walks, Rock Shotput, and Slacklining captivated attendees, creating an atmosphere of excitement and physical prowess.

Organized by the Society to Save Rocks and the Great Hyderabad Adventure Club (GHAC), the event received support from the Telangana State Forest Department Corporation (TSFDC) and Telangana Tourism.

Dr. G. Chandrasekhar Reddy, Secretary to the Chief Minister, and Vice Chairman and Managing Director of TSFDC, flagged off the Rappelling event, while Farida Tampal, State Director, WEF – India, launched the Rock Walk.

Mohammad Ahmed from GHAC expressed gratitude for the enthusiastic participation, stating, "It is heartening to see people of all ages coming out in this heat and thoroughly enjoying the programs. We, from the Hyderabad Rockathon organizing team, are deeply grateful for the support extended by TSFDC & Telangana Tourism and for enabling the conduct of an enriching program."

The event featured a diverse range of activities, including Rock Balancing and Rock Quiz, alongside a snake awareness session. Attendees gained awareness about the rocks and rock formations in the Deccan region, which are approximately 2500 million years old.

“These geological formations play a crucial role in impacting the water table, flora, and fauna, and providing essential lung space in the ever-expanding urban areas. The unique balancing rock formations are characteristic of the Telangana landscape” said Ahmed.

The Hyderabad Rockathon not only celebrated adventure and physical challenges but also served as a platform to educate participants about the ecological significance of the region's rocks.

“As Hyderabad continues to grow, events like these play a vital role in fostering awareness and appreciation for the natural wonders that surround us” concluded Ahmed.
