Hyderabad: Photo exhibition at Salar Jung Museum honours Telugu freedom fighters, chronicles flag’s evolution
Hyderabad: A photo exhibition highlighting prominent Telugu freedom fighters and the evolution of the Indian National Flag was inaugurated at the Salar Jung Museum on Thursday.
The exhibition has been curated by the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, under its Integrated Communication and Outreach Programme (ICOP).
Exhibition open till August 17
The display features around 40 panels depicting the role of various unsung heroes from the freedom struggle, including Turrebaz Khan, Moulvi Allauddin, Kaloji Narayana Rao, Sangam Laxmi Bayamma, Kumram Bheem, Suddala Hanumanthu and others.
The exhibition will remain open for public viewing until August 17, giving citizens an opportunity to engage with the historical narratives of Telugu freedom fighters.
Rare collection that must be available for youth
The exhibition was inaugurated by V Vijayendra Prasad, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), who said, “It is a rare collation of information which the youth of the State should be made aware of.”
After viewing the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ segment on the flag’s history, including its first design in 1921 by Pingali Venkayya, he remarked, “The Indian National Flag is not merely a piece of cloth, but a symbol of the nation’s self-respect and pride. Just as the Indian Flag flies high with dignity, every Indian should uphold the same spirit of pride and honour.”
He urged the CBC to make greater use of digital platforms to disseminate it.
Inspiring patriotism
Prof. B Jagadeeshwar Rao, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hyderabad, who was also present for the event, said exhibitions like this help preserve history and inspire patriotism: “Initiatives like this play a vital role in preserving India’s history and instilling patriotism among the youth.”
He highlighted the three core themes, India’s freedom struggle, the evolution of the National Flag, and the liberation of Hyderabad from Nizam’s rule, and encouraged students to internalise their essence “Education is not merely for personal advancement, but also for contributing to the nation’s unity and progress.”
Essay writing and Telugu poetry competitions
In connection with the exhibition, CBC Hyderabad organised essay writing and Telugu poetry competitions on patriotic themes, including Operation Sindoor, across five city colleges. Winners were presented prizes and certificates by Shri Prasad and Prof. Rao.
Shruti Patil, Additional Director General, CBC, described the event’s purpose: “The photo exhibition was an attempt to bring the youth of today closer to the glorious history replete with valour and sacrifices of our forefathers for securing freedom for our country.”
