Hyderabad: The North-Eastern Telangana Cultural and Techno-Cultural Festival recently concluded its first phase in the city with a spectacular finale: an outstanding theatre presentation titled ‘TANA-BANA’ by the renowned Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Foundation.
The name TANA-BANA literally means the ‘warp and weft of fabric’, which is symbolic of the intricate and interwoven cultural tapestry of Telangana and the North East.
Spotlight on the stars
The evening was graced by an electrifying collaboration between two theatre giants: Baharul Islam of Assam, a celebrated stage and OTT actor and Mohammad Ali Baig, the celebrated theatre revivalist.
The duo held the audience in awe with scenes from their plays and an improvised performance focusing on life in the North-Eastern states and the five southern states. The performance was lauded for being introspective, lyrical, and humorous.
Mohammad Ali Baig’s command over Urdu and English, coupled with his masterful intonations, captivated the spectators.
Baharul Islam’s mesmerising dances and Assamese singing added a rich, regional texture to the one-hour experience, which left a lasting impression on audiences from the eight states represented.
The aesthetic quality of the show was significantly enhanced by the veteran theatre personality Bhagirathi Bai's masterful lighting design.
Symbiosis of cultures
The successful collaboration between the Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Foundation and the Assamese Seagull Theatre was an exemplary manifestation of the symbiosis between the two distinct regions.
This union was, in fact, the brainchild of Governor Jishnu Dev Barma, who hails from Tripura. The festival itself, which included a diverse range of cultural activities such as:

- Music concerts
- Fashion shows
- Art exhibition
The event was conceived to foster cultural exchange and understanding between the North-Eastern States and Telangana, a vision perfectly crystallised by the ‘TANA-BANA’ theatrical grand finale.
