Hyderabad: In a collaboration with the international eyewear brand Ray-Ban, the social media giant Meta has unveiled its highly anticipated Ray-Ban Meta smart sunglasses, as part of their expanding lineup of AI-powered products.

These smart glasses, introduced at the Meta Connect event, represent the evolution of their predecessors, the 2021 Ray-Ban Stories.

Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg took to the stage to reveal that these innovative shades would incorporate a new AI assistant capable of live-streaming the user’s point of view directly to Facebook and Instagram.

A sensory upgrade

One of the standout improvements in these smart sunglasses is the enhanced audio experience. The Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses feature custom-designed speakers with extended bass, higher maximum volume, and improved directional audio.

This translates to reduced audio leakage, making calls, music, and podcasts sound even better, even in noisy or windy environments. Furthermore, a newly designed five-microphone array enables immersive audio recording, allowing users to capture sounds exactly as they experience them.

Capture and share moments

With a new ultrawide 12 MP camera, these smart sunglasses elevate the quality of photos and support 1080p video recording for up to 60 seconds. Users can easily share their captured moments with friends and family using a simple voice command “send a photo.” This feature adds a seamless and interactive dimension to your photography.

Under the hood

Powering these smart glasses is the Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 Gen1 Platform, a new addition that enhances photo and video processing and overall computational speed. The accompanying charging case has also undergone a redesign, now slimmer and more compact while offering up to eight additional charges, totalling an impressive 36 hours of use.

Livestream and interaction

One of the standout features of the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses is the ability to livestream directly to Facebook and Instagram. Users can engage with their online communities in real-time and even preview and hear comments out loud, fostering interaction and connection.

Meta AI assistance

These smart glasses come equipped with an advanced conversational assistant optimised for hands-free, on-the-go experiences. By saying “Hey Meta,” users can interact with Meta AI to spark creativity, obtain information, and control various features. It’s important to note that Meta AI features will initially be available in beta exclusively in the United States.

Availability and pre-orders

Excitement is building as pre-orders for the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses are now open on the official websites of Meta and Ray-Ban. These cutting-edge shades will be available for purchase online and in retail stores starting October 17, promising users an upgraded and immersive experience that seamlessly integrates technology into everyday life.
