Vizag's upcoming attractions

Visakhapatnam: Vizag city known for its stunning coastline and vibrant culture, is gearing up to unveil several new attractions and adventurous activities, further enhancing its appeal as a tourist hotspot in 2025.

Here’s a glimpse of what's new:

1. India’s longest cantilever glass skywalk on Kailasagiri hilltop

Inspired by the famous glass skywalk in China, Visakhapatnam will soon boast a 50-meter-long cantilever glass bridge on Kailasagiri Hilltop Park. This architectural marvel, modelled after the Vagamon Glass Bridge in Kerala, is set to become India’s longest cantilever glass bridge, surpassing the current record-holder at 40 meters.

Situated near the iconic Titanic Viewpoint, the bridge will offer breathtaking views of the city and the surrounding natural beauty, promising an unforgettable experience for adventure lovers and nature enthusiasts alike.

The project, developed under a public-private partnership (PPP) by the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) and RJ Adventures, a joint venture of SSM Shipping and Logistics and Bharat Mata Ventures Private Limited is estimated to cost Rs 6 crores.

The bridge will accommodate up to 20 people at a time, with tickets expected to be priced between Rs 100 and Rs 300 for a 10 to 15-minute walk.

Currently, India has glass bridges like the Rajgir Glass Bridge at Nalanda in Bihar, the skywalk in Sikkim and Wayanad in Kerala.

2. Zipline and sky-cycling adventures

Kailasagiri will soon feature two-way ziplines and sky-cycling tracks, each spanning 150 meters, for a combined length of 300 meters.

Developed at a cost of Rs 2 crores, these attractions have already undergone successful trial runs. They will be open to the public soon.

3. Helicopter museum on the beach road

A decommissioned Sikorsky UH-3H helicopter, once a vital part of the Indian Navy’s operations, is being transformed into a museum on Visakhapatnam’s beach road. This Rs 2.2 crore project is nearing completion, with 80 per cent of the work already done.

The UH-3H helicopter, named Saaras and inducted into service in 2009, was retired after 17 years. As the helicopter reached the end of its service life, it was decided that one UH-3H would be permanently displayed at a prominent location in Visakhapatnam.

Known for its role in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) missions, offshore security, and special operations, the helicopter will join Visakhapatnam’s unique lineup of museums, including the submarine museum, TU-142 aircraft museum and Sea Harrier Museum.

4. Upcoming developments on Kailasagiri

VMRDA has more ambitious plans for Kailasagiri. The officials are planning to build nature cottages, a revolving restaurant, a beach-view cafe, a car race track and a 12D theatre.
