Guntur: Guntur Police have seized a container lorry after they found 65 migrant workers being secretly ferried to Uttar Pradesh.

Hailing from Uttar Pradesh, the desperate workers had chosen the surreptitious and dangerous journey as they wanted to return home at the earliest.

A team of police and revenue department officials stopped the container coming from Prakasam district at Pondugulla Check Post in Guntur district for inspection.

Officials got suspicious as the driver could not give a satisfactory answer. During a search, they found some 65 daily wagers inside the container.

Guntur Rural District Superintendent of Police Ch Vijaya Rao said they have seized the container and action will be taken against the driver.

“Our investigation has revealed that the workers have been working in a private firm in Martoor of Guntur district. We have sent the migrant workers to Martoor,” he said.

Sources said that the migrant workers had paid a good amount to the driver for ferrying them home.
