Hyderabad: Malkapet vegetable traders staged a protest after huge quantity of onions was imported from different parts of Maharashtra.

Traders were apprehensive because of the surge in the corona cases in Maharashtra.

For the last two days, more than 40 truckloads of onion arrived in the Malkapet vegetable market from different parts of Maharashtra. Usually, Malakpet market receives huge quantities of vegetable from Maharashtra which helps in keeping the prices in check

Traders alleged that the market officials were not taking any precautions to control or check the spread of the virus. They demanded that health department staff should be deployed at the market to screen the laborers, workers, and drivers from Maharashtra. They also demanded that vehicles coming from Maharashtra should be allowed into the market only after the sanitization.

Since no measures were taken, traders, workers, and hamaalis abstained from the business during the early hours. Business resumed after it was agreed that the issue will be taken up with the authorities
