Mahabubnagar: Police have detained a daily wage labourer after he poisoned newborns at a private nursing home in Mahabubnagar district of Telangana.

Identified as Keshavulu, he was reportedly upset over the birth of girls. He mixed pesticides with the milk and fed it to the newborns. Both the newborns are battling for life.

His criminal act was caught on the CCTV cameras at the hospital.

Hailing from Deshaipally village of Gandeed Mandal, he got his wife Krishnaveni admitted to Balaji Nursing Home in the neighboring Kosgi town on September 1.

Later she gave birth to twin girls. The couple already has a girl child from the first pregnancy. Keshavulu, who wanted a son, was deeply upset over the birth of girls.

On Thursday, both newborns suddenly started frothing from their mouths. Doctors noticed a pungent odor in the froth and suspected a foul play. They immediately alerted police and shifted the children to Mahabubnagar district hospital.
