Man sentenced to life imprisonment for raping minor

Hyderabad: A special court in Hyderabad that deals with POCSO cases has sentenced a man to rigorous life imprisonment for raping a 15-year-old. In a judgement issued on December 17, the court also slapped the accused Mukesh a fine of Rs 1 Lakh as compensation to the victim.

The facts of the case are, the victim on May 1, 2011 visited the place of the accused who was her neighbour. The two sisters of the girl were out playing at that time. While the victim was watching TV at his house, the accused forcibly raped her. When her mother who is a contract labourer in RTC depo returned home the minor victim informed the same to her. The victim was studying in class 7 and had not attained puberty at the time of the incident.

On May 2, 2011 the victim’s mother registered a case with Kachiguda police. This verdict is a result of nine year long legal battle. Based on circumstantial and medical evidences, it was established that the victim has been subjected to sexual assault and rape.
