Hyderabad: The LB Nagar court, on Tuesday, convicted and sentenced Anantha Ramulu, a native of Narsampally in Mahbubnagar district, to life imprisonment for killing his wife. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 on Ramulu.

In November 2015, Ramulu came back home in an inebriated condition and picked up a quarrel with his wife. Gova Lakshmamma. Later, he even assaulted her saying that he would kill her if she did not give him money for buying liquor. Unable to bear the torture, she headed to her cousin’s house in the same street. However, Ramulu followed her with a kerosene tin and threatened to kill her. Soon he doused her in kerosene and set her ablaze. Alerted by her cries, the neighbours rushed out of their houses and extinguished the fire. They rushed her to Osmania General Hospital where she died while undergoing treatment.

Before this incident, Laxmamma lodged a complaint with the police against Ramulu that he was harassing her. The duo got married 15 years ago and they have a 11-year-old daughter Krishnaveni and a son, Shivakumar (9). The couple moved to Hyderabad in search of a job eight years ago. Ramulu got addicted to alcohol after coming to the city.
