Man sexually assaults minor, absconds

Hyderabad: The Kulusmpura police have registered a case against a 22-year-old who has allegedly sexually assaulted a 16-year-old on multiple occasions.

Police said that the accused, Rohit, got close to the minor under the pretext of marriage. After knowing that she has been cheated, the minor approached the police and registered a case against him.

“He threatened me many times,” she said. “He got me intoxicated with drugs and then assaulted me. He threatened to hurt my younger sister too and that he would be able to get away with it,” the girl added.

The family of the minor alleged that the police tried to do away with registering a case as RohitB’s father is a politician, and had also wanted the family to compromise. “They didn't file a case after coming to know that he is the son of the local leader,” said the girl’s father.

“He tortured my daughter, mentally and physically. But now he will be released from jail within minutes,” the girl’s mother said.

The police registered a case only after the victim lodged a complaint with the Human Rights Commission

The Kulsumpura Police said that they deployed special teams for Rohan who is on the run. “We have filed a case against him on August 12 and the accused is absconding. We have called in his father for questioning. We have registered a case against Rohan under the POCSO Act and charges of rape,” said P Shankar, SHO, Kulsumpura.

The family said they are living in fear as the accused comes from a political family.
