Mentally-ill woman remains locked up in house with husbands body for 3 days

Hyderabad: In a bizarre incident, a mentally-ill woman had allegedly remained locked in the house with her husband’s dead body for three days in Nizamabad, Telangana. The incident came to light after her neighbours found foul smell emanating from the house and alerted the police.

When police arrived at the spot, the woman was found sitting near the body and her husband’s body was in a decomposed condition. Inquiries revealed that the man died on Sunday.

According to the police, the deceased, Limba Reddy, was a retired revenue official and his wife, Shakuntala, were living in the New Housing Board Colony in Nizamabad. Their daughter is in the USA while their son is working in Hyderabad.

Limba Reddy was suffering from health complications while his wife was mentally-ill and both of them were on medication.

Police found that Limba Reddy passed away on Sunday but not aware of that due to her mental condition, Shakuntala did not inform anyone and continued to stay in the same house. It was also found that the couple always stay away from their neighbours.

The news of the death came to light only after three days because of the ongoing lockdown too.

Police found that Shakuntala was not able to understand what was happening even the cops reached her house. Nizamabad police registered a case and began investigation.
