Minor gas leakage at Sirpur Paper Mills leaves one worker hospitalised
By Newsmeter Network Published on 11 May 2020 9:05 AM GMTHyderabad: Even as memories of the deadly LG gas tragedy in Vizag are still afresh, another similar incident was reported at Sirpur Paper Mills (SPM), Sirpur, Kagaznagar town in Komarambheem Asifabad district, Telangana, on Monday.
The gas leakage left one worker hospitalised as it was a minor incident. There were many other workers on the premises but they remained unaffected. Three months ago, three migrant workers died and six others were injured in a mishap at the SPM, when a new boiler plant being commissioned crashed on them.
According to sources, the incident occurred in the first shift this morning, when around 15 workers were there in the plant. A few minutes after the shift began, workers noticed an unusual smell from the machinery and alerted the security and management. It was found that some gas was leaking from the pipes and the workers were rushed out of the plant. The operations were also shut and the emergency protocols were initiated.
As the workers were not affected, all of them have been told to return home. A couple of hours after reaching home, some of them started complaining of breathing issues and they were rushed to hospital. One of the workers, whose is yet to be identified by the management, has been admitted to the hospital with severe respiratory issues and kept under observation, while other workers were provided treatment and discharged from the hospital immediately.
While the SPM authorities initiated an inquiry into the incident, police also started a probe into it.
