Hyderabad: The Cyberabad police, on 5 August, issued an advisory warning people against multi-level marketing fraudsters who are now targeting housewives, young women, and unemployed youth. According to the police, the fraudsters have adopted a new modus operandi to gain the trust of their victims and trap them.

Recently, the Miyapur police had arrested a gang of four people in connection with a multi-level marketing fraud. The four have been identified as Subodh, who is the mastermind, Deekshit, Uday Jeevan, and Rahul Malani. All the four suspects were arrested and remanded in judicial custody, said the police.

The gang would lure people by promising high returns on investments. Once the victim invested in their fake schemes they would harass the victim and force him/her to bring in more investors. In one such case, the gang trapped a woman sexually harassed her and cheated her to the tune of Rs. 15 lakhs.

The Cyberabad police have warned people and asked them to refrain from investing in such fake schemes. The public can file a complaint regarding such frauds at 9490617444, the police said.
