Hurun Rich List: Apollo hospitals chairman Prathap Reddy, family India's new billionaire

According to the IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich list 2021, around 15 individuals entered the top 100 list of billionaires. Prathap C Reddy and his family rank 78 on the list.

Hurun Rich List: Apollo hospitals chairman Prathap Reddy, family Indias new billionaire

Hyderabad: For the first time, the founding Chairman of the Apollo group of hospitals Dr. Prathap C Reddy, and his family have made it to the list of India's billionaires. According to the IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich list 2021, around 15 individuals entered the top 100 list of billionaires. Prathap C Reddy and his family rank 78 on the list. Reddy's wealth shot up by 169%. The family has a whole owns wealth worth Rs 21,000 crore.

Established in 1983, the group owns a chain of hospitals, pharmacies, primary health care, diagnostic centers, telemedicine centers, and medical education centers, and research foundations. The top brass of the Apollo group that manages the show includes Preetha Reddy ā€“ Executive vice Chairperson, Shobana Kamineni ā€“ Executive Vice Chairperson, Suneetha Reddy ā€“ MD, and Dr. Sangita Reddy ā€“ Joint Managing director.


Pertinently, promoters of Pharma, Chemicals and Petrochemicals companies are among the top 100 billionaires in the country. Hyderabad is home to over 56 billionaire families having wealth of more than Rs. 1,000 crore (Rs. 10 billion), according to Hurun India Rich List. Telangana has a total of 63 billionaires. According to the reports, 5 new families have made it to the list which includes the Apollo group.

Murali Divi, a US-trained scientist and founder of Hyderabad-based Divi Laboratories - a drug research firm, is the richest Hyderabadi and 14th richest person in the country with a wealth of Rs. 79,000 crore, according to IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List 2021 released on Thursday. He was ranked 17th last year. His wealth has increased by 61% over a year.

Another billionaire from Hyderabad who made it to the list is B. Parthasaradhi Reddy and the family of Hetero Labs with a wealth of Rs. 26,100 crore. His wealth has grown by 88% in a year.

Meanwhile, the wealth of P.V Ramprasad Reddy of Aurobindo Pharma Group has decreased by six percent. In March his wealth was around Rs. 22,600 crore which has decreased to Rs. 19,000crore. He ranked 86th this year.

The list of billionaires included Dr. Reddy's laboratories chairman Kallam Satish Reddy, G.V Prasad, and G. Anuradha. However, they are not among the top 100 billionaires in India.
