Hyderabad doctor Jnanesh Thacker clocks his 500th heart and lung transplant

This marks a significant milestone for surgeons across the world. This was independently verified in the international registry of Heart and Lung transplantation by the hospital authorities.
Dr. Thacker was an instrument in performing heart and lung transplantation across Austria, UPMC, Pittsburg, Temple University Philadelphia among others. In addition to this, he was recognized for performing more than 70 transplants in a period of 3 months. He is currently the Surgical Director of Heart, Lung and Heart-Lung Transplantation and Mechanical Assist Devices in Hyderabad-based Yashoda group of hospitals.
Dr. Thacker was already a cardiothoracic surgeon before he headed to the United States of America for training. He practiced at reputed centers in the world in the then pioneering work in Heart and lung transplantation. After his return from the US, He was the first to perform a successful Lung Transplantation for an Indian patient in India, the hospital authorities said.
Dr. Pavan Gorukanti, Director Yashoda Hospitals said, "Dr. Thacker's passion is to increase awareness of heart and lung transplants in India, which is still at the beginning stages when compared to other countries. India lacks awareness on new advances in medical, immunosuppressive and surgical treatments for long term survival with good quality of life".
Dr. Pavan further adds, "Heart and lung transplantation is poised for exponential growth in the country and Dr. Thacker aims to eventually do among the highest number of such transplants in the world from right here.
