In a complaint submitted to the HRC, Bandari Kavitha sarpanch of Rupireddy Palli under Regonda Mandal in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district, has alleged life threat from Bhupalpally MLA Gandra Venkataramana Reddy.
"My husband Bandari Devender heads the district's Backward caste Welfare Society. However, the MLA does not want him to support the BC outfit while being his follower. Keeping this in mind, when we recently approached him regarding funds for village development, he abused us in the name of caste and threatened us. He even declared that not even a single rupee would be given for the village development. Since then we are frequently receiving threats from his followers causing severe mental harassment," Kavitha said in the complaint.
Devender has alleged that the MLA asked him to quit the BC welfare society . "I have been his ( referring to the MLA) supporter since 2014 and worked for his victory during the assembly elections in 2018. However, he is discriminating against us in the name of caste and warned me against supporting the BC welfare society against his wishes," Devender added.
The couple in their appeal to HRC has sought protection from the MLA and his followers.
