Shambhu: As many as 101 farmers will begin their march to Delhi as a protest against the government for refusing to implement MSP guarantee law and debt relief, among other long-standing demands.

Kisan Majdoor Morcha (India) and Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) have been protesting for over 11 months at Shambhu, Khanauri and Ratanpura (Rajasthan) borders, demanding the implementation of 12 issues related to farming, including the MSP guarantee law for crop procurement and debt relief for farmers and workers.

Jagjit Singh Dallewal’s hunger strike has entered its 52nd day. However, the Union government remains indifferent to these demands and has ceased discussions with the protesting organisations, the farmers said.

January 21 peaceful march

During a press conference at the Shambhu border, senior farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher shared that, similar to the peaceful marches of December 6, 8 and 14, another group of 101 farmers will march towards Delhi on January 21. This group will be led by Manjit Singh Rai (state president, BKU Doaba) and Balwant Singh Behramke (state president, BKU).

He condemned the police and government for their treatment of previous groups and emphasised that the march would remain peaceful. He appealed to the government to either accept the demands and allow farmers to return home or facilitate their peaceful journey to Delhi to voice their concerns.

111 farmers join as Dallewal’s hunger strike reaches 52nd day

Jagjit Singh Dallewal’s hunger strike continues for the 52nd day with 111 farmers joining him. He reiterated their demands, the same 12 points that were accepted in writing by the government in 2020.

He also criticised the FIRs filed against protesting farmers following PM Modi’s cancelled rally in Ferozepur on January 5, 2022. Jagjit Singh condemned Punjab’s government for filing charges under Section 307, warning of a strong response if further action is taken against farmers.
