'31 murders, 300 attempts to murder, 35 suicides’: Jagan sends SOS to PM Modi
YS Jagan Mohan Reddy writes to PM Narendra Modi seeking an investigation by central agencies for attack on YSRCP cadre
By Sistla Dakshina Murthy Published on 19 July 2024 4:59 AM GMTAmaravati: Former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking an investigation by central agencies into the attacks against YSRCP workers and leaders after elections.
Law and Order deteriorated in AP
In his letter, the former CM also sought an appointment with the PM so that he could personally appraise him about the deterioration of the law and order situation in the state in the past 45 days. “There is no protection to life, limb, and dignity of the people. Leaders and workers of the ruling party, with their barbaric and inhumane activities, are spreading widespread fear among the people of the state,” he said.
Jagan said after coming to power, the TDP-led coalition government immediately targeted those who did not support them in the recently concluded elections. He said they have targeted the known sympathizers of the YSRCP and started terrorizing them by humiliating, beating, and even killing them. In this process, they have destroyed the properties, and establishments, including residential houses in the open glare, causing widespread fear among people in the state, he said.
Not only personal attacks, govt property destroyed
The former chief minister noted that in addition to personal attacks and vandalism, they have caused severe damage to government properties. “They did not spare even the Village Secretariats, RBKS, and Village Clinics that provide essential services to the people, just because these institutions were established by the YSRCP Government, they destroyed these buildings solely for this reason,” he added.
“They have also vandalized the statues of late Dr. YS Rajashekhar Reddy, former Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh, which were installed following due process of law. Taking their barbaric acts to the extreme, YSRCP activist Rashid was brutally hacked to death in Vinukonda on Wednesday. This incident happened in the middle of a busy street, and surprisingly the police were nearby when it happened,” Jagan said.
YSRCP elected representatives are being attacked by TDP mobs
The YSRCP chief said that not only the party activists, even YSRCP elected MPS and MLAs as well as the candidates who contested the elections, have no protection. On Thursday, TDP mobs attempted to murder our party's Lok Sabha floor leader, MP PV Midhun Reddy, who had gone to meet former MP N Reddeppa at Punganur in Chittoor district, This attack happened in the presence of the police, indicating a severe deterioration in the state's ability to protect its citizens.
“This is the classic example of the apathy of police towards law-and-order issues. With impunity, TDP goons are emboldened to perpetuate these barbaric and inhuman acts as if they were permitted to do so. There are no signs of a democratic government anywhere in the state. The constitution, the law, and the police system are all non-functional. For the past 40-45 days, the state has been governed under a de facto `Red Book constitution, effectively handing over the control to political goons, rapists, and those who commit atrocities against children,” the former chief minister said.
31 people murdered, 300 murder attempts in just one month of new govt
Jagan said that in just one month of the new government, as many as 31 people have been murdered, nearly 300 murder attempts have been made. As many as 35 people have committed suicide due to TDP harassment. Around 560 private properties have been destroyed and as many as 490 government properties have been vandalized. Nearly 2,700 families have left their villages due to these atrocities.
Additionally, there have been over 1,050 incidents of violence and attacks. This reflects the state of affairs in our state under the present dispensation, which is not at all inclined to maintain law and order.
“These incidents are part of an evil design to suppress the YSRCP with the sole aim of eliminating anyone associated with the party from the political scene. This intent is communicated from the top officials to the lower levels of the government. A state minister has even put up hoardings under the name of the `Red Book’ directly instructing the cadre to carry out attacks and signaling officials not to intervene. Consequently, TDP goons are wreaking havoc across the state,” the YSRCP chief said.
Jagan also pointed out that instead of using government machinery to protect the interests of the people without discrimination, it has been politicized. “Murders, attacks, and atrocities are allowed with this intent. The government is discriminating against some of the All-India Services officers. Nearly 27 IAS and 24 IPS officers have not been given any postings for the reasons best known to them”, he said.
