New Delhi/ Hyderabad: 4,435 new Covid 19 cases were recorded in the country making it the single-day biggest jump in 163 days. There are 15 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours.

The number of active cases has increased to 23,091 according to the data from the union health ministry.

The country recorded 4,777 cases on 25 September 2022.

Dr. Narsinga Reddy, a senior member of the Indian Medical Association in Hyderabad explains, "Deaths are being seen in those who are suffering from co-morbid conditions like diabetes, heart problems, cancer, and other diseases. The cases are rising but the maximum number of patients are being treated on an out-patient basis only. The hospitalization is very low."

Four deaths were recorded in Maharashtra and Kerala each, and one death each in Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Puducherry, and Rajasthan.

Dr. Vipin M Vashistha, pediatrician and Editor of Covid-19 Vaccines tweeted, "India is going to record the highest number of Covid cases and deaths today, as far as the ongoing surge of XBB.1.16 is concerned."

The cases are expected to rise further as the variant is highly transmissible.
