West Bengal: After a tumultuous Assam leg of the journey, Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra entered West Bengal. Thousands of party workers received Rahul Gandhi when he crossed into Bengal.

Assam Congress leadership handed over the Yatra flag to West Bengal counterparts.

West Bengal Congress president and leader of the Congress party in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury receive the Yatra in the state. There was unbound enthusiasm and jubilation among the party workers as they greeted Gandhi with cheers and slogans.

Congress leader thanked them all for the warm welcome they had accorded him. Speaking on the occasion, Gandhi said after the 4,000-kilometer-long Bharat Jodo Yatra from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, he had now embarked on the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra from Manipur to Mumbai, East to West.

Gandhi expressed confidence that the INDIA block will together fight the injustice in the country unleashed by the RSS and the BJP. He alleged that the RSS and the BJP were spreading hatred and violence across the country and INDIA formation would defeat them.

The Yatra will cover about 637 km across eight districts and ten Lok Sabha constituencies in West Bengal.

Gandhi expressed his profound gratitude to the Congress leadership and workers from Assam for making the Yatra a grand success there despite the hostile attitude of the local government and administration. He said the Nyay Yatra had changed the political narrative in Assam.

Earlier, Gandhi got off his bus in front of a huge group of women outside the Halakura village Panchayat and interacted with them. They also took selfies with the Congress leader.

Before that, Gandhi met a delegation of the All Koch Rajbongshi Students Union leaders in Dhubri district of Assam. The Koch Rajbongshi people are classified as OBCs but seek ST status. Ten years ago Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised to declare them as STs, but that promise remains unfulfilled. Mr Gandhi assured them that the caste census would bring clarity about their numbers and socio-economic status giving credibility to their demand.

The Nyay Yatra will resume on January 28 after the Republic Day celebrations’ break.
