Andhra Pradesh set to become Green Energy Hub; Kakinada to emerge as Green Hydrogen Valley: CM Naidu

Kakinada: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday said that Andhra Pradesh is set to emerge as a major green energy hub, with Kakinada being developed into a Green Hydrogen Valley, positioning the State at the forefront of India’s clean energy transition.

Laying emphasis on innovation-led growth, the Chief Minister said the future belongs to the knowledge economy and asserted that Andhra Pradesh offers the best ecosystem for innovation and wealth creation.

He called upon young entrepreneurs to “dream big” and assured them of full government support to achieve their goals.

Foundation laid for green hydrogen, Ammonia plants

The Chief Minister, along with Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, laid the foundation stone for AM Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia plants at Kakinada.

Congratulating the promoters, including industrialists Ch. Anil and Ramesh, Mr. Naidu said the State had introduced the Clean and Green Energy Policy–2024 to attract large-scale investments in renewable energy.

He announced that 1.5 million tonnes of green ammonia production would begin from June 2027, with exports planned to Germany. The eco-friendly project, he said, would significantly contribute to environmental protection and sustainable agriculture.

Ambitious Green Energy targets

Referring to national goals, the Chief Minister said Narendra Modi has set a target of producing 500 GW of green energy, while Andhra Pradesh aims to generate 160 GW.

He said the government is prioritising solar, wind and pumped storage power projects, and added that Kakinada would soon emerge as a preferred destination for green hydrogen and green ammonia. The use of green ammonia, he noted, would greatly benefit the agricultural sector by improving soil health.

Power reforms, tech investments

Highlighting recent power sector reforms, Naidu said Andhra Pradesh has achieved surplus power, attracting global technology firms. As a result, Google has come forward to establish an AI data centre in Visakhapatnam.

He also announced the establishment of the State’s first Research and Development Centre in Tirupati, aimed at fostering innovation and supporting startups.

Drones, Space City and Quantum Computing

The Chief Minister revealed that a drone ambulance service would be inaugurated this year, while drone taxis are expected to become a reality within a year. He further stated that the government is working towards setting up a Space City, with satellite launches from Hope Island planned in the near future.

In another major announcement, he said quantum computing services would commence within six months from Amaravati. Simultaneously, the government is focusing on employment generation and skill development to equip youth for future industries.

Deputy CM highlights massive investments

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan said Andhra Pradesh is fast becoming a destination for green energy investments. He welcomed the projects, stating that green hydrogen and green ammonia would play a crucial role in environmental protection.

He noted that investments of around Rs 18,000 crore are being made in the Green Hydrogen plant and about Rs 66,000 crore in renewable energy projects, reflecting strong investor confidence in the State.

BJP State president PV N. Madhav, Minister Vasamsetti Subhash, MPs Sana Satish and T. Uday Srinivas, MLAs and senior officials attended the programme.
