AP govt announces free APSRTC bus travel for Persons with Disabilities from March 18
The scheme aims to enhance accessibility, mobility and social inclusion for PwDs by enabling them to travel conveniently in public transport

Vijayawada: Persons with disabilities (PwDs) across Andhra Pradesh can soon travel for free in government buses. The Andhra Pradesh government has announced this major welfare initiative called ‘Indradhanussu’ programme.
Free travel for eligible PwDs
According to the government, the scheme will be applicable to all persons with disabilities who have 40 per cent or more disability and are covered under Section 2 (ZC) of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act, 2016.
Eligible beneficiaries will be allowed to travel free of cost in several APSRTC bus categories across the State.
Formal opening on March 18
The free travel facility will be implemented through the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) and will come into effect after its formal launch by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on March 18.

Bus categories covered
The free travel facility will be available in the following categories of APSRTC buses: City Ordinary, Metro Express, Palle Velugu, Ultra Palle Velugu, and Express.
Concession for escorts
To support persons with disabilities during travel, the government has also announced a 50 per cent fare concession for escorts accompanying eligible PwDs in the above bus services.
Boost to accessibility and social inclusion
Officials said the Indradhanussu initiative is designed to improve mobility for persons with disabilities and help them access education, healthcare, employment and social opportunities more easily.
The scheme is part of the State government’s broader efforts to ensure inclusive development and dignified public services for persons with disabilities across Andhra Pradesh.
